Results of trial by North East London Foundation Trust

A new report by the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) details the findings of a 3 month trial of the Hydrant at its hospitals during summer 2013. The report highlights the ability of the Hydrant to contribute at a national level to improving the problem of dehydration in hospitals and even suggests that simply having the Hydrant around helps to promote a better sense of patients hydration.

Findings of a qualitative survey during the trial included:

  • 75% of patients felt that the Hydrant increased their independence
  • 67% of patients felt that the Hydrant increased their comfort
  • 74% of patients felt that the Hydrant should be offered to all who can use it
  • 86% of staff agreed that the Hydrant helps people to drink unaided
  • 51% of staff agreed that the Hydrant had reduced urinary problems
